The starting point: the Daniłowicz Shaft

The Daniłowicz Shaft building and its headframe at dusk, the starting point of the tour

The Tourist Route starts at the Daniłowicz Shaft, which is the meeting point for the guide. The mine asks you to arrive at least 15 minutes before the time printed on your ticket.

The graduation tower and a park are next door, if you have time before or after the tour.

About 800 steps down, and a lift back up

The wooden staircase that winds down into the mine

According to the mine, the first 380 or so steps take you to level I, 64 metres below ground, and in total the route has about 800 steps down. The deepest point of the Tourist Route is 135 metres, and you return to the surface by lift from level III.

The mine says the route does not need more than average fitness. The walk covers about 3 km underground.

    St Kinga’s Chapel

St Kinga's Chapel, carved in salt, with its chandeliers glowing below the vault

The mine describes St Kinga’s Chapel as the most exceptional chamber of the Tourist Route, carved entirely in rock salt. Photos show salt chandeliers, an altar and wall reliefs.

Chamber details can change: the mine says that in exceptional cases some chambers may be left out of the tour, so no single chamber is guaranteed.

    The underground lake

The underground lake in the Erazm Barącz Chamber, crossed by a wooden walkway

A brine lake crossed by a wooden walkway is part of the Tourist Route, as described by the mine’s Polish pages.

The chamber is named after Erazm Barącz.

    The Michałowice Chamber

The mine’s events page puts the Michałowice Chamber at 110 metres deep, with room for up to 100 guests, and our photo shows its wooden structure and a wheel-shaped chandelier.

We could not confirm whether the chamber is on the standard Tourist Route or where: ask your guide, or check the official site.
